Rough Design
Designing this map started with a rough design of a white board to layout general locations of objects and major features.

The temple is designed loosely on the three lane style using three wider lanes separated by raised bridges that connect the central temple with two smaller temples that serve as spawn locations.

I then determined an aesthetic style, choosing a smooth geometric architectural style utilizing a lot of straight edges and perfect circular curves.

Construction and Evolution

With the rough design complete I began construction, starting from the center central temple and its conquest point, before branching out to the side creating the spawning temples and side conquest points.
At this point I came to realize the perfect symmetry of the original design was a little boring and began retooling the design.
I decided to scrap the design of one of the symmetrical outer lanes and instead split it, creating two lanes, one with a thinner long path with various cover points along it and a closed in cave lane with a main room in the center of the lane with symmetrical design on each side.
Refinement
Following initial construction I began running through the game in the player character to get a better idea of the lines of sight. From this perspective I was able to find overly long lines of sight and I could add more cover points giving players places to leap frog from cover to cover, adding additional objects like side fencing, pillars, and other rubble to make it fit into the environment.
