DESCRIPTION
Port Cardin is a level in a theoretical 3rd person stealth RPG where you play as a Vampire trying to find a cure. In this level the protagonist is attempting to escape the city aboard the ship of a sympathetic captain he knows. However it won't be so easy.

Design Process
This Level is based on a theoretical game I came up with, so I already had a list of abilities for the main character as well as most of the aesthetic research completed.










Next I moved to the big whiteboard to rough out the general locations of the major buildings and locations. I then moved into Adobe Illustrator where I took that rough design and refined it, adding additional interiors, cover points, hiding places, objective points, as well as enemy placements and patrol paths.



From there I entered engine and began constructing the level. I was a little concerned about scale if I constructed the "skeleton" layout first so I instead constructed buildings one by one completing their entire shape and details before moving on to the next in line in case I needed to resize a building.



Golden Path


Upon entering the level players will quickly find their way into the pub looking for information on the ship captain who can smuggle you out of town. Once the player speaks to the bar keep a brawl will ensue.


After beating down enough drunken sailors in the pub, a cutscene will carry the player up to a vantage point on the lighthouse giving the player an excellent point to survey the docks and plan.


Player will then sneak into the port offices to reach the captain. Free him and he will mark the locations of his crew, who have been sold off to pay of their debts, and the location of his steam ship's key.




Players then will explore the port, liberating the crew members so they can set sail.


Finally, players must kill all the remaining guards aboard the ship and cut loose the mooring lines so they can set sail.
